What does breaking the sound barrier feel like?

Author: admin Category: Uncategorized

When an aircraft breaks the sound barrier, do the people inside feel anything? Do they go deaf for a little while after the sonic boom?

Nope, you can't feel much or hear anything while a plane goes supersonic. The only people who would hear the "boom" are observers on the ground. Inside the aircraft, there may be a slight jolt, or you'll notice condensation in the shockwaves, depending on the weather and altitude.

It's really not notice except rare occasions. And no, your hearing is fine.

If there was ABSOLUTELY nothing else going on, very rare with going supersonic, you could feel the bow wave give way. I was probably flyng the Viper a year before I felt it the first time and like I said, nothing else could be going on or your miss it.

Well if they catch you, you'll have to pay to get it fixed. Fixing sound barriers ain't cheap ya know…

No, the others pretty well summed it up. Not much, and you won't go deaf.
