I want to get the idea which way of recording is highest in quality and professional when we want to record and produce a music album in a home studio by using arranger and workstation keyboards.
You have asked the MAGIC question. FIRST you record all of it ON your workstation and THEN record it as LIVE AUDIO track by track INTO a recording studio 16 track (software) on your computer
(And dont tell anyone I told you, its a trade secret!)
IF you record in MIDI (which everyone else is going to tell you to do) BEFORE you can do the mixdown you have to CONVERT the MIDI tracks to AUDIO so you’ll save a LOT of time and effort recording them to audio in the first place.
I personally HATE MIDI and I wont work with it. (Of course I do, if I’m forced too but…) It SOUNDS too mathematical, too presice, not free enough. I can play in real time and record in one track and one take but I’m a VERY experience player. IF you do ALL your tracks ON the workstation as AUDIO and FIX everything on that first and then hit the record on the computer then play on the workstation it all comes out the same! Just remember to record one track at a time (and use the sequencer for each separate part of the song on the workstation eg: intro, verse, chorus…) Recording like this means that I can finishe everything AT HOME then go to the recording studio and get everything done in HOURS instead of Weeks and it saves me so much money its unbelievabe. I once recorded EIGHTEEN complete songs (with vocals) in an eight hour session. It usually takes four days to finish one song any other way!
Next, you need to record in WAV format at 48,000
NO OTHER FORMAT AND NO OTHER SPEED
NEVER move your recorded files to another folder (NOT EVEN ONCE)
Never record higher than 48,000 no matter what the capabilities are of the card/program youre using. (once they’re recorded you CANT change them (I can, you cant)
NEVER EVER EVER CONVERT THESE FILES TO ANY OTHER FORMAT NO MATTER WHAT
There are some things there that you may question, so if you have another question like why cant I record higher than 48,000 ask it, but take my word for it.
Buy the BEST SOUNDCARD that you can afford.
The studio program that you want is CAKEWALK from cakewalk.com
the best 2.1 speakers (ALTEC LANSING ARE AWESOMELY FANTASTICALLY MAGICALLY BRILLIANT!)
Oh yeah, and did I mention I dont use MIDI to record?….
Try doing ONE song like this and I guarantee you’ll never ever do it the way anyone else does ever again.
