What is the ‘noise reduction’ feature on my HDTV and what does it do?
Author: admin Category: Noise ReductionI have four options for this feature low, mid, high, and off. What setting should I use and why?
It is generally a sound processor that cuts out ‘noise’ (like the buzz/hum).
I would get a recording (something you can replay), and test it with the setting ‘off’ for about 60 seconds, then rewatch the segment with it on ‘high’ and see if makes any difference.
Often times, software features such as noise reduction, image smoothing, etc are just marketing gimmicks that make little or no discernible difference.

Some TVs have this feature and it picks up on the level of volume from programs and commercials…most of the time commercials tend to be louder so the reduction will automatically lower the volume when it senses it getting louder. Mess around with the levels, see if actually does what it supposed to and find the setting you’re comfy with.
