What comes at the expense of increased noise reduction (for luminance and color) in Lightroom 2?

Sharpness and Clarity. Pretty much all noise reduction just smooths over the image to remove or reduce noise, so in doing so fine detail gets lost in the shuffle.

    Loss of detail. The challenge with any noise reduction algorithm is to reduce noise without reducing fine detail, which is confused as noise.
