On The PS3 System What Exactly Is Noise Reduction?

And What Does It Do To The Sound, Not Just Movies But Videos I Imported Onto The System Also.
older movies on celuloid are affected by "noise", basically the graininess, however this alos arises when you upscale DVD’s as the PS3 needs to make up bits of the detail that isnt thier, this can ;lead to noicse, so noise reduction smooth’s over it a bit ot get rid of this. along wiht a few other techincil stuff using alorythms n what not.
