    few hundred bucks …
few hundred bucks my . it’ll cost at least a few grand for a decent setup. Mine for example. Roland Fantom x6(2,500), Imac 20″(1,700), Apogee duet interface(500), Logic Studio software(500), mxl mic(200), M-Audio bx5a monitors(400), Cables(100), foot pedal(50). Add that up. Exactly. Oh yeah and american audio headphones(100)

    Yeah man agreed, …
Yeah man agreed, it’s the same here in the UK the contestants are so exploited as well, simon cowell signs them, spends way too much on them and then drops them around the time next year’s american idol winner comes round. It’s bullshit this feature on home recording anyway, sure it helps out beginners know where to start out but I hate it when people are this naive like her, there is a big difference in being a musician and having a radio friendly voice!

    not everyone starts …
not everyone starts our with AEA A440’s, a pair of ATC mains and Liquid Channel pre’s on a Protools HD set ;)

    i agree with …
i agree with everything you said man, but she is half right. that ed up show has made more and more tone deaf mother ers think they can sing and be the next big . prompting the influx in people building home studios to record their no singing and upload that on youtube.

    Was that black host …
Was that black host stupid? “American Idol has inspired many people to become musicians..” - Are you in kidding me? She needs to be shot. American Idol has to be one of the tiest TV shows ever. I was aspiring to be a musician long before that piece of show ever made it to the airwaves.

    i dont really care …
i dont really care for THAT o.o
i was more over thinking a recording studio as a video studio, like icarly or something =/ i prefer it non professional too :O

    Oh, and if the …
Oh, and if the Delta 1010 is the best soundcard that shop offers then that’s pretty disappointing.

The 1010 has been around for like a decade and the converters are poor. Even entry level interfaces from today sound a lot better than it.

    “Interfaces, up to …
    “Interfaces, up to about $500″
    lol

“Mics go anything up to $549″
    lol

“Be prepared to spend anything up to $150 on an expensive pair of decent speakers”
    LOL

All of those would be considered horribly cheap by most people. Why do they consider $150 to be expensive for a pair of monitors, and in what way would they be decent?

    oh and obviously …
oh and obviously the taylor acoustic didn’t cost under 500 bones :)
the point is that most people dont need to spend over like 500 bucks + whatever instrument they rock to get their thoughts out there.

    you’re a retard. i …
you’re a retard. i have a maudio card, 2nd from the bottom level behringer mixer, mixcraft 4.5, a couple mics, and an acoustic guitar. total cost: under $500. im not cutting albums but i’d just need a little more hardware and a larger mixer to do that.

the average joe blow can put down some good tracks if he has an ounce of talent and creativity.

    ^ well, maybe it …
^ well, maybe it got easier for everyone. But the music didn’t get better at all even quite the contrary. Compared to the song of the 60s 70s and 80s!? No chance!

    don´t be silly, …
don´t be silly, when you are serious about sound, buy at least Presonus Firestudio, witch cost 550 dollars…. and i am not speaking about mics, drums, serious amps and other instruments…. and the computer of course….

have Athlon64 X2 6000+ based computer with 2GB DDR2 and about 1100GB hard drive, going to buy Presonus Firestudio, couple of drum mics (Sennheiser, Rode) and its going to cost about 1500 dollars,

im glad i already have comp and possibility to borrow guitar and bass amps

i tryed to install the software with the cd that the audio interface came with but it says that my computer does not support it…..
any1 knows how to install it a diffrent way or what can i do?

    Good music is …
Good music is recorded with well placed, good mics, in a decent acoustic environement on a reliable DAW. The rest is your choice… relying on severe EQs to get the sound your looking for sucks…

    yeh maybe 500 bucks …
yeh maybe 500 bucks for a cheap interface, keyboard and mic. My set up costs atleast $8000. I have my Pearl drum kit, my new imac ( $2000), Rhode mic ($400) , M-audio usb interface ($400) and my Hughes and Kettner Head and cab ($4500).
$10 000 is probably the minimum you want to spend for a decent home studio…oh and the software costs hundreds. I use logic pro 8.

It may cost a lot of money but in the end it is definately worth every cent!!

    Now THIS is the …
Now THIS is the truth for real… I wish I could’ve built my studio with the sound quaility I have now for 300!! But for all of you who want a home studio just look on musiciansfriend. Thats where i bought most of my equipment. And you can find a Dual G5 mac on ebay for about 600 and that will do the trick as far as a computer goes. You’ll just have to add a 4 usb pci card and a 1TB HDD which for the G5 is less than $200. All in all you can get good quality for about 2 gs

    Ah..No! Bullshit …
Ah..No! Bullshit typical media hype, to get people excited. In the real world, and as it should be, You should invest at least $3000-$12000 on your home studio. Period. If your not willing to invest that, well…you should be able to participate in the game. simple as that, go find some cheap studio time and record there.

That’s some truth for you watching this getting googely eyed.

    few hundred bucks? …
few hundred bucks? i dont think so.. if u have nothing… u’ll need - -

A Good Computer( for around 1000-2000$)
A Software like: Pro Tools and Fruity Loops.. thats 700$
A good microphone(Usb plug in or midi plug in) 299$
    Speakers(good quality) for about 500/1000$
and u should have an amplifier too for some few hundred bucks..
    Midi Keyboard for 100-1000$
that is what a home studio costs..i thank God i had much of it from before but it costs u alot!

  24. dirtydrumz

    When you have …
When you have skillz in EQ’ing and using diferent effects than you can make high quality tracks. Many major artist use cheap mic’s like shure SM58. Some artist that make electro music have casio samplers that you can buy for a few $ on ebay. You can have an SSL mixing console and make tracks that sound’s like ….

  25. freekymusic

    Cheap equipment …
Cheap equipment means cheap sound. Paying more doesn’t just get you more mic inputs. It gets you better quality components and pre-amps. Let people who know what they’re doing record musicians. And btw, Fox say you could do it for about $500…!? Well the mic that the dude was singing into would cost you nearly double that. Either you do it properly or it will sound home-made. Period.
