What are the basic components i will need?
all you really need is some insulating foam, a makeshift "booth" or area [corner of a room, bathroom etc]..
put the foam on the walls.
its all about the mic you use so prepare to spend on the mic. itll prolly be the most expensive and important investment.you also need an m-box to keep the sound clean as its recorded and dumped into the PC. then u need monitor speakers, a computer, and a mixing board. how many tracks u can handle only youll know so go to guitar center and play arounnd on em. then get a program like Qbase or ProTools to make the music.. MPC3000 to make beats.. AKAI makes a whole bunch of 4tracks,samplers etc for cheap.. umm thats about it. do it yourself and sell independently

well instruments are a good start.
and preferabley effects boxes and amps for each guitar & bass. you need a few systems to run them through.
you can run a keyboard thru your home stereo system more than likely.
you need something to record with. maybe for starters you go download some free mixer/recorder online and get your computer involved (Assuming you have a mic and an input). http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/
you can buy an all-in-one recording set up from guitar center /musiciansfriend.com for relatively cheap.
