Home Studio - Making Music
Author: admin Category: Home Music Studio
Hi all,
The Shane Diiorio band are putting together their first official album this year and we spent one day recording drums, bass and guitar/vocal guide tracks and we have 8 songs to be released! The band played live so it’s got a live vibe about it.
I am doing my vocal and guitar parts at home now with my little home studio for you to check out.
The clip at the end is a guitar solo attempt that is not getting used for a song called “Driving to a Standstill”.
Any questions feel free to ask?

I owned a …
I owned a firestudio and a Motu 8 pre. The two I kept in my studio are the UX8 which i use for guitar tracking now and the Motu which I feel is the strongest of the units. The Presonus pramps are good but I wasn’t a fan of the drivers they weren’t very good. Other than that the presonus is a good unit just not very versatile.

No it doesn’t read …
No it doesn’t read the instructions. It sends 8 tracks to 8 individual channels. No offence, but if you purchased it and can’t get it to work in this fashion then you either can’t understand your recording software or are using it incorrectly. It won’t use gear box on 8 channels at a time it will record try mic channels to 8 tracks no problems. It’s up to the software operator to ign it to do so.

DO NOT BUY THE …
DO NOT BUY THE TONEPORT UX8! i find it to be useless. you cant even run each track individually it all records onto one track. and honestly the preamps are terrible. i own the same ux2 and i couldnt agree more that the vocal preamps are . if you honestly suggested the ux8 then perhaps you should look into the presonus firestudio, it has MUCH better preamps, it has a midi in and out, and you can record each input seperately. but you have to have a firewire connection or firewire2usb adapter.

Yeah man, out of …
Yeah man, out of the presonus firestudio, mbox and ux2 I choose the UX2. If you are planning on recording drums get the UX8 it’s really good I have one of them too

The inputs i think …
The inputs i think you mean? They are ok but there’s not enough gain for professional mics depending on how you sing or what you are doing with it. They are good but not great compared with a proper preamp.

Don’t buy a …
Don’t buy a TonePort. I got one and it was gone after less than a year. The gearbox software that comes with it is horrible as well. You have to run it in parallel with the software.

Well, an untreated …
Well, an untreated room isn’t necessarily no good for recording/mixing. But then again it may depend on what you’re recording. Recording live drums I would say wouldn’t work too well. But I record vocals in my untreated bedroom studio. The mic. is out in the open. I have no problems recording or mixing. =) But then again, I produce rap/hip-hop, not all live instruments.

Ok first check to …
Ok first check to make both your speakers are plugged in thats a given. Second if they are powered make sure they get the proper voltage. Third it might be a software problem, if so check the settings and make sure your speakers are registered. And last thing i would check is that on your track make sure your panning level is in the middle.
