Awsome studio man, and I’m really likin the music you got on your myspace.

  3. drossfile

    none of the …
none of the treatment i put up is intended as soundproofing. that requires an entirely different process. those panels are broadband absorbers for controlling frequencies in the room. also, i don’t need a computer. i use a hardware daw. it works fine.

um i would seal ur …
um i would seal ur door better i mean u can see through the crack of the door frame.. sound could get out.. and foam ur door. and the most important thing u need for a recording studio is a
COMPUTER!! MACs r better with suported good harddrive

lol, thanks! yeah, i refuse to take any food or drinks into that room. if you wanna check out my sound, check out myspace slash therealdross. youtube doesn’t let us post links for some reason.

    i see, you thought …
i see, you thought i was generally asking about “anything more i should do” for my studio, lol. no problem man, but the whole purpose of making this video was for the guys at an online forum i hang out at. i had just finished the treatment project (under the guidance of the forum guys) and was asking them if there were any other panels i should make/put up. i don’t claim to be a pro, this is just my hobby. i wasn’t actually asking for general recording advice. no offense taken, thanks. :)

    cause this is the …
cause this is the way it is professionally done. You asked for advice. I gave it. I ran a professional recording studio for 4 years. Sorry if I have offended you.

  10. drossfile

    why on earth would …
why on earth would i spend a couple grand to replace something that works perfectly? i already get perfect quality–that machine encodes the same ones and zeroes that a computer does, isn’t prone to viruses, has absolutely ZERO latency, and is extremely stable. i hear this advice all the time, and i find it a little annoying, no offense.

  11. gryphonsegg

    ditch the recording …
ditch the recording unit and get a computer. You can do miles and miles more stuff at perfect quality given your mics and room and technique are good. cheers.

    I ve been watching …
I ve been watching a lot of you tube vids on home studios, and it seems like everyones going to computers. It seems so much more expensive though, and I get a lot done with my 799.00 Fostex Vf-16.

where do u by those …
where do u by those aucoustic things i need them so bad

  18. drossfile

    i’ve heard good …
i’ve heard good things about the rane–i’m really happy w/ the dmp-3 though. fantastic, clean pre. as for decoupling, the bx5a pair comes w/ thin foam pads that i have stuck on the bottom, but yeah i really need to get some real stands and decouplers. those cheapie speakers that are acting as stands are only introducing additional garbage to the mix also…

  19. rty5150

    have you heard of …
have you heard of the rane ms 1b? it is a single channel preamp that goes for around $150 new. i am told it is a killer for the $600 or less pricepoint. it is only for level with absolutely no frills, but hear that it is spectacular. i will be getting one soon, maybe a pair. i already have the ssl alpha vhd and focusrite isa428. did you decouple the monitors, yet? it will help in better translating of low end. helping your mixes to travel better.

    haha that’d make …
haha that’d make your perfect studio. and maybe a couch.

  21. drossfile

    oh, as for cost– …
oh, as for cost–very economical compared to treatment you can buy. i can’t remember what the total cost was, but it was around $500 for all the materials for the panels you see here, as well as a few more i’ve built since then. if you wanna learn more about acoustics and room treatment in general, look at ethan winer’s site (can’t post links here apparently). i learned a lot there. ethan winer is a guru on the subject, and shares lots of info for free on his site.

  22. drossfile

    well, there really …
well, there really isn’t enough room for “reverberation” to actually occur. instead you have “flutter echo” and “standing waves” (googe these terms to learn more). the absorbers deaden the room pretty effectively and eliminate lots of problems. also google “diy broadband absorbers” and you should get some good results. i made mine with owens-corning 703, muslin, bolts/washers/nuts, and spray adhesive.

  23. chrislpp

    ahh….is it a sort …
ahh….is it a sort of reverberation around the space then and not as punchy?

my space is open and about half as much as yours again…the roof is plywood (roof was filled with polystyrene) and a sort of plaster walls.

how much are each of these panels and are there easier/cheaper things?

  24. drossfile

    thanks, i’ve heard …
thanks, i’ve heard the 101 and rnp in action, and they’re really nice (esp the 101). but i do this as a hobby, so i don’t need to get to carried away. i have 2 dmp3s now, and i don’t use that tube mp for anything (totally unacceptable sound).
    thanks for the comment.
