On Monday, October 13th, Andy Green and the ThrustSSC team made two runs, one at 764.168 miles per hour (Mach 1.007) and then at 760.135 miles per hour (Mach 1.003).

    Yes, I did read …
    Yes, I did read about the return trip within an hour. That was posted on their site.

    Nowhere on my text in the video does it say that either this was an official record, or that this was the only one.

    It clearly states that (to go with this recording on oct 13) that this was achieved, not official.

    Near the end of the video, I do state the date when the land speed record was officially set.

    Anything that CNN states wrong, is clearly out of my hands.

    Great video, a few minor quibbles though -
    1. Richard Noble believes they actually broke the sound barrier for the first time on the 7th October.
    2. No record was set on the 13th because they failed to make a return run with an hour, the second run is mandatory for LSR setting, not a ‘backup’
    3. USAC did not ‘grant the record’, they only timed the runs. The FIA is the body that ratifies the records.

    Just a clip I found on an older VCR tape. I put together some info, pics and the footage Oct. 13, 1997 when the sound barrier was broken on land.
