How fast will I need to go to break the sound barrier ?
Author: admin Category: 5I want to hear a good sonic boom that will break glass .
sound travels at aprox. 750 miles per hour or 1100 feet per second. so thats how fast you must travel. but it depends on your proximity to the object that is breaking the sound barrier , for its ability to break glass

It depends upon air’s density. At sea level, you will have to go faster than 340.3m/s or about 740 mph.

as mythbusters found, you need a supersonic plane to break glass. a rifle bullet didn’t do it, and a cracking whip won’t either.

it matters if it is in the air or on the ground if it is in the air then the speed is 663 mph but on the ground it is 768 mph

768 miles per hour at sea level.
There are some bullets that go faster than the speed of sound.
However, Mythbusters tested this and it is very hard to use a sonic boom to break glass. They needed an airplane 200 meters above ground descending at a 5 degree angle before one out of many glasses broke, and it was only because it was warping…
The height that the airplane flew is illegal to do except in places that are used to train pilots.

easiest way to break the sound barrier? crack a bullwhip — but it wont break glass
hardest way to break the sound barrier, that will break glass? 200 feet above ground level in an F/A - 18 Hornet fighter jet. (not recommended… you’ve have your butt arrested after you land
the speed of sound is 761 miles per hour at sea level at 20 degrees celsius
