Does cork flooring act as a sound barrier?

Author: admin Category: 5

I’m interested in installing cork flooring. I’ve been told that it acts as a sound barrier. I have a new home, the master bedroom is above the kitchen and the genius builder didn’t insulate between the floors. It doesn’t matter how softly or hard someone walks across the floor, it wakes me up b/c of the noise but also b/c of the vibration.
Will cork flooring reduce the vibration and noise?

Cork flooring will act as a sound barrier but you will often have to reapply a sealant. Have you considered that you can install something on the floor you have right now and then lay either hardwood or laminate or any other type of flooring over this board. It’s made especially for blocking out sound and it really works.

You can easily install it and it will help you get some sleep :)

Yes but the problem is it tarnishes very quickly so if you apply cork and then put something over the top it would work better.

A thick rug would do more for less.
