Cost of freeway sound barriers?

Author: admin Category: 5

How much does it cost per unit of length for a standard freeway sound barrier? I can’t find it anywhere. Thanks!
I can;’ swear to this but I’ve heard it’s a million bucks a mile.

What are some good YouTube videos about the sound barrier and/or breaking the sound barrier.?

Author: admin Category: 5

It would be wonderful if you could find a video of pilots trying to break the sound barrier, but having their wings rip off and crash. Any good videos would be nice. Thanks in advance!

need help with noise reduction?

Author: admin Category: Noise Reduction

I would like to know if anyone knows if foam padding is any good to stop noise thrugh a window? or if anyone knows of something else that would work.
The stuff that looks like egg crates works good. You want something shaped like that so it will break down the sound waves. You will never [...]

Is it possible for a Commercial airline to break the sound barrier?

Author: admin Category: 5

The typical cruise speed for a commercial jet is about 0.8 Mach. So with a lot of tail wind, would it be possible?
Thanks.
Or would it start to break up?
First, a tailwind (or any wind) does not influence the Mach number, as the Mach number depends on the plane’s speed in relation to the air, [...]

On some motorway sound barriers, why are there glass panels along the top?

Author: admin Category: 5

It’s more for aesthetic reasons than anything else. It’s bad enough having a massive wall along side you, people don’t want to be hemmed in from above as well!
I once heard that it’s to stop people hiding alongside them. I think that’s what you call "rubbish".

What is the difference between passive and active noise reduction in GA headsets?

Author: admin Category: Noise Reduction

Is there a noticeable difference in noise level?
passive is simply the old fashioned blocking out sound with material such as rubber, styrofoam and whatnot
active noise reduction means a chip analyzes incoming frequencies and emit the same one back to cancel it out before it reaches your ear.
There is indeed a noticeable difference in noise [...]

Do sonic booms occur only once when an aircraft exceeds the sound barrier, or are they relative…?

Author: admin Category: 5

…to the position of the listener?
I think its the former as long as the aircraft maintains its supersonic speed. If multiple booms are heard then it must be because a single jet is decelerating and accelerating below and above the speed of sound.
Is that correct?
Thank you Captain J.
And thanks to all who responded.
An aircraft traveling [...]
